FOMC day one after an AI-led Monday selloff

Monday’s cash close cut the majors, with semiconductors hit hardest after AI-lab chiefs pushed for a slower frontier pace. Tuesday premarket futures are only slightly higher as the FOMC meeting opens. The decision lands Wednesday. Until then the rule is holdcash: keep an existing weekly trend and respect the flip, or sit in cash.

Cash weak Monday; futures steady into day one

What happened

Monday cash closed lower across the board. The Dow finished at 52,421.20 (−0.29%), the S&P 500 at 7,619.98 (−0.48%), and the Nasdaq Composite at 26,186.41 (−0.56%). The Russell 2000 slipped about 0.4%. The SOX sank roughly 5.9%, and AI and chip names led the damage. Brent settled near $105.68 a barrel after earlier nearing $110, and the 10-year yield briefly touched about 5%. Tuesday premarket, E-mini S&P futures were near 7,697 (+0.06%) and E-mini Nasdaq-100 near 29,485 (+0.12%). The Fed meeting runs 15–16 September, with the decision on Wednesday. Markets still price about a 92% chance of a 25 bp hike. The 10-year sits near 4.994%, with WTI still above $101 and Brent above $105.

What it means

A soft Monday in AI and semis is a stress test for crowded hardware betas heading into the Fed, not a free pass to chase a tiny futures bounce. Names already in long weekly trends — Micron (MU), Bloom Energy (BE), Seagate (STX), Dell (DELL), and Siemens Energy (ENR.DE) — do not need a fresh entry on day one of the meeting. Oil and yields near recent highs keep the risk backdrop tight until Wednesday’s statement.

Chart and trend facts

Last completed weekly scan remains Sunday 13 September. Those prints still show the same bullish weekly cluster above flip. Monday cash weakness stressed holders of that group; the weekly flip prints have not been refreshed.

What to do

Sit in cash unless you already hold a confirmed weekly trend. Do not invent a Tuesday entry from a flat premarket bounce with the Fed decision still one session away.

Micron cluster still bullish on last weekly prints

What happened

Monday’s AI and semiconductor cash selloff put pressure on holders of the weekly hardware cluster. The last completed weekly scan still lists Micron as a clear long weekly bull trend. That flip print has not been updated since Sunday 13 September.

What it means

A hard SOX session can shake holders who bought the story instead of the flip. If MU, BE, STX, DELL, or ENR.DE are already held as confirmed weekly trends, the job is to respect the flip — not to average down into Fed-week noise.

What to do

If you already hold a weekly bull trend in Micron or the related cluster, hold it and respect the flip. If you do not hold it, sit in cash. No FOMO into a flat futures open ahead of Wednesday’s decision.

Rule of the day

holdcash

FOMC day one after an AI-led Monday selloff is not a green light to chase. Hold existing weekly trends and respect the flip, or sit in cash. Protect attention for Wednesday’s statement and projections — that is when the tape updates the regime.
